All night Paris photowalk

18 May, 2008 (07:31) | UK, europe | By: trevor

I’m a bit late with this announcement, but I figured you’d at least want to know about it.

Last night, in Paris, France, a large group of Londoners set out for a full night of photography. They took an evening train from London and arrived after dinner time in Paris. The goal was to shoot all night, following a predetermined path.

I’m excited to hear back from the few I know who attended. Maybe we’ll get a recap here, soon.

Special Summertime London Photowalk

1 April, 2008 (13:34) | London, UK, announcement, news, photowalking, trevor | By: trevor

****Update****
I have some bad news friends. My attendance at this photowalk won’t be happening. I’m still hoping that you all will attend and have a great time. Our anniversary trip has been forced to remain in North America. We hope to make it out next year, though.
***************

Westminster TowerThis summer, I’m taking my wife to Europe to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We’ll be in London for several days, and I’ve decided to join Phill Price in organizing a photowalk.

On Saturday, August 16th, 2008, we’ll be meeting at the Wellington Arch, in St. James Park at the Hyde Park Corner. (just look at the map below). Be there by 1 pm, or you might get left behind.

This will be my first time to photowalk in London. I’ve been there before, years ago. However, I’ll also be meeting a few of my online photography friends for the first time.

I really hope you make the effort to attend, if you can. Please comment below if you’re going to make it. Also, head over to the Upcoming event page and indicate you’ll be attending.

Aberdeen, Scotland Photowalk Update

16 February, 2008 (08:23) | UK, photowalking, scotland | By: chrisnixon

High StreetDon’t forget that tomorrow, Sunday 17th February, is the Old Aberdeen Photowalk.

We will meet at the Bobbin Mill at 1pm for a bite to eat and a drink. If you’re not up for some food, we will meet at the front door of the Bobbin, and at 2pm we’ll head out and explore Old Aberdeen as well as the more modern architecture of Aberdeen University. We’ll take a walk through Seaton Park, and we may head down to the Brig O’ Balgownie. I’m told there is a troll guarding the bridge, so we may give it a miss depending on the mood of the group.

I think we will be finished about 4pm. It’s not a long walk, but I would imagine the time will be taken up looking through lenses and swapping tips.

Please don’t let lack of photography gear or knowledge stop you from coming along. This is a catch-all event, and everybody can learn something new. I’m not a great photographer myself. The reason I’m organising this is to get some tips from others.

It would be really handy if you could take a note of your Flickr/Zooomr/Ipernity pages as well as any photo blogs you have so that I can link to them in my round-up of the day for the blog. If you’re going to share your shots on a photo sharing site, tag your shots with the following:

photowalk:aberdeen=20080217
upcoming:event=419110
photowalking02172008

It looks like the weather is going to be sunny, but in Aberdeen this time of year that also means cold. Dress appropriately. We don’t want anybody falling foul of the elements.

By my reckoning there should be about a dozen people coming along, which should make for some good craic. My mobile number is 07771 758005 if you get lost or are running late. The Upcoming.org page for this event is here. It would be really helpful if you could sign up there.

See you there!

Old Aberdeen Winter Photowalk, Scotland

29 January, 2008 (14:26) | UK, photowalking, scotland | By: chrisnixon

Old AberdeenI’ve been hoping somebody would organise a photowalk close to me for a while, but it turns out that if you organise something yourself, it’s more likely to happen. Who’d have thought?

We’ll meet at the Bobbin Mill pub for a bite to eat and a chat at 1pm before heading off for a photowalk round the grounds of Aberdeen University, Old Aberdeen and Seaton Park. If you’d prefer to skip food, we plan to leave the pub at 2pm.

The University of Aberdeen has some beautiful architecture, dating from the middle ages to the modern day, that we can spend a bit of time exploring and photographing. The cobbled streets of Old Aberdeen are well worth a visit and look great through a lens. Seaton Park, one of the cities biggest parks, is beautiful all year round, and will provide a nice contrast to all the architecture shots you’ll be taking.

This is an all-inclusive event. You don’t have to have any photography experience to take part. You don’t need the latest kit to impress. Even a disposable camera will do the job. We can all learn a little something from each other.

Please remember that this is Aberdeen in winter, so you should prepare for cold, rain, snow, wind etc. Or it might be glorious sunshine. You really never know.

I’ve created an Upcoming page for this event here, and there is a Google map of the suggested route below. Please sign up so we have some idea of numbers approaching the day. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the Photowalk, feel free to post them in the comments.

I’ll post any updates for the event here and over at Photografr.com.

London Photowalk Wrap-up

16 January, 2008 (15:44) | London, UK, photowalking | By: Phill Price

12-01-2008_photowalk_010What a successful sunny afternoon, yes you read that right - it was sunny in London! OK it did rain solidly for the week before and the evening and day afterwards but ho hum. It was to the point where I wished we met a lot earlier. In all around about 30 people turned up - the majority form the London Flickr group but also a few Zooomrites and the London Photographer group on Facebook.

After a last minute change of route and start I half expected to turn up and find an empty pub but already people were waiting (Billy “Cowfish” Abbottt brought along some funky film cameras which I’m sure he’ll share the shots from - if the work) up to giant Nikon’s like Simon’s. There were a few nationalities and some inventive photography along the route and its great to see the differences (and similarities) of the different photographers along the route.

The light went far too quickly - so there’s another tip I thought 2 hours would be enough for 3 miles but I guess it’s half that speed! Also next time there will be more defined meetups en route for people to come and join in without the problem of poeple moving from where they said hehe.
. Reflection

So a big thank you to everyone that came, here are all of the people I’ve found photos from so far…

Here are the photo searches on both Zooomr and Flickr (and Flickr link to upcoming tagged photos)

London Photowalk draws nearer (**UPDATE**)

9 January, 2008 (15:53) | London, UK, photowalking, reminder | By: Phill Price

London at nightIt’s only a couple of days from the London Photowalk now - so all of you in the watch list had better get yourselves into the attend list!

Here’s a provisional map for the walk - although it might change if we go to quick or slowly. There should be enough photo fodder in the just over 3 mile route - and there are plenty of places to stop and get food and drink if we need to.

Those of you on the Upcoming attend/watch list will get my mobile number (or you can add me on Facebook to see it) however I miss you out please message me on any of my profiles anywhere (Zooomr, Flickr, Facebook, Upcoming) and I’ll get it even while I’m there as I have internet on my phone (even though it’s not an iPhone :P)

The current weather forecast is 7 degrees and sunny should that help your attire!

One week to the London Photowalk

5 January, 2008 (16:54) | London, UK, photowalking, reminder, update | By: Phill Price

Blackfriar SunsetHi everyone - it’s coming up to just about a week until the London Photowalk. The meet up has been designated at the Blackfriar pub (as Blackfriars is quite simple to get to by train and by Tube) from there we can easily get to the city, the South Bank, Law land, theatre land etc. I’ll be in there from one grabbing a pint / some food - don’t want to be to wonky shooting - and then probably set of at two-ish giving a couple of hours of light, a sunset and then a bit of night shooting.

All abilities, ages, cameras and style welcome. I’m sure we’ll all learn something from each other so please feel free to add yourself to the UpComing list (or move from Watch to Attend :P )

I look forward to meeting you all!

29 December, 2007 (16:04) | London, UK, announcement, flickr, photowalking, reminder, zooomr | By: Phill Price

Hi everyone - sorry for being so slow in getting this together.

I’ve made a Google Map of some the possible routes for us to go - which would you like to do first? Or is there anywhere else that takes your fancy?

Also I’ll proably be mooching tips from you all as I now have an SLR! (EOS 400D)

London Photowalk - Jan 12th

13 December, 2007 (07:50) | London, UK, photowalking | By: Phill Price

Hi everyone, Time to get the first photowalk rolling. What a better way to spend a wintery January day than to go on a photowalk. Not only is it good on the bank balance you also help the exercise resolution from all the walking around. Most of all we all get to meet each other and have a laugh.

So, here’s the dilemma - where in London to shoot?

I’ve got an Upcoming.org event, a London Flickr Meetup Post, a UK Photowalk post on Zooomr and a Facebook event to discuss the possibilities.

So come on, get involved - no snobbery from anyone, just great people and great opportunities for photos (and probably beer afterwards/during)
