Some pals from the Ventura County flickr group have planned a pretty cool photowalk in Ventura, CA. They’re meeting at the Ventura Pier on January 20th @ 2pm. Make sure, if you’re around, plan on attending this one.
The plan is to meet at the pier and then wander towards the downtown area.

You up for another photowalk? Well then, join us this Sunday for an afternoon & evening photowalk in downtown Ventura, CA. We’re meeting at the Mission Park, on Main Street, at 5pm. Expect to shoot until well after the sun has gone down. I’ve also set up an Upcoming event, check it out to RSVP, or just comment below.

Let me just say, that I appreciate all who came out and joined us in Santa Monica for the photowalk. We had a great turnout, with at least 20 people. We met up in front of the Apple Store in the Third Street Promenade. After all arrived, we headed down Third Street towards the pier. We got to see some pretty unique looking street performers along the way.
Once at the pier, we spent some time wandering around the Palisades Park, which overlooks the PCH, beach, and the pier. We gathered up the troops and next headed over the walking bridge and on down the boardwalk towards Venice Beach. We didn’t quite make it to Venice, but we did get to shoot several skateboarders strutting their stuff.
We headed back to the pier, but we still had plenty of time before the it began to get dark, so we decided to get some sustenance at the Pier food court. Yum.
As the sun began to set, we realized that our beautiful sunset wasn’t going to happen. A cloud bank rolled in and blocked our view of the sun setting. So we rolled with it and adapted. We regrouped and headed onto the sand for some good lower light beach shooting. It got dark and we were in the prime location and prepared for some of the best shots of the event.
Many of us, myself included, learned more than we can retain watching some great photographers like Thomas Hawk, Noeltykay, MikeHedge, and RandyMan shoot the pier all lit up.
By the time we were finished, the majority of the group had headed the responsibility of getting home at a reasonable time. So, with the few that were left, we headed back to Third Street for a drink and debrief.
I must say that this photowalk was a great turnout, with some really engaging attendees. Thanks to everyone one of you who made it. Our tag on Flickr and Zooomr is “photowalking080407“, so as everyone gets around to processing their images and uploading them I’ll get them linked to here.

Additionally, it became clear to me while wandering around the group, that many of us are self declared “Thomas Hawk fanboys”. So, in light of our obsession, I have set up a nice little gift we can get ourselves. Get two, one for a friend!

So, it looks like we’re going to have a great turn out at the first Santa Monica Pier Photowalk. In case you didn’t know, we’re having this on August 4th, 2007.
Just one thing we need to clear up. Where are we going to meet? I’ve seen that question tossed around a few times. Noel, the photographer of the image above, frequents the downtown area of Santa Monica. He recommends that we meet at the Third Street Promenade, since we’re meeting at 4pm. This allows us to wander the Promenade, a busy destination, before heading to the Pier. The golden hour for the Pier isn’t until sunset and it’s only a few blocks from the Promenade. I’m instructing everyone to meet at The Apple Store, at the Third Street Promenade, at 4pm. See you there!

So, it’s been a while since we photowalked. Well, I think we should get back at it.
How about a little trip to the Santa Monica pier? I think an afternoon trip would be nice. We can hang around long enough to get some good evening shots. I’m thinking that the lights of the pier and businesses will be beautiful against a dark blue sky.
We’re planning a trip on August 4th. That’s a Saturday, and we’ll meet at 4 pm.
I also have a little secret. Someone big might be there. Shhhh! Don’t tell anyone.
