Great recap of Stanford Photowalk

12 November, 2007 (09:58) | SF, announcement, photo-website, photoblog, photowalking | By: trevorcarpenter

Back on October 1st, Thomas Hawk, Robert Scoble, and friends photowalked Stanford University. They had a great time, and of course Scoble had his camera. Hawk recapped it, and I think you should take a read.

Anyone can use Photowalking.org to announce the photowalks that you are organizing. You can also use Photowalking.org to review solo photowalks. I’m more than willing to let Photowalking.org be your blog for sharing with the world what you’re doing with your photography.

I have failed to mention to you one great website that any photographer could use for some inspiration. Photografr.com has emerged as a top place to find really good images from around the photo sharing ‘net. With several posts a week, you’ll find a wide array of images from Zooomr, Flickr, and a few other sites. I know I’ve found some really nice photos there. Both images in this post were covered there recently.

Great contest results from a blog-friend

26 May, 2007 (21:54) | news, photo-website, photoblog, projects | By: trevorcarpenter

A new blog-friend, Jim Goldstein of JMG-Galleries just finished a great little project. The contest was called the Favorite Photo and Background Story Photo Blog Project. Basically, photo bloggers were to post, on their own blog, a simple story describing the circumstances surrounding one of their own favorite photos.

I must tell you, I love photo projects. I have actually stopped reading other blogs, in order to make room for more photo blogs. I love the community and camaraderie I see. Additionally, quite often photo bloggers are doing contests and projects. This really drives me to shoot more and that’s a good thing. I also find that I’m learning a lot from the hosts and the participants. It’s a great deal all around.

Take a moment and shoot over to JMG-Galleries and read the 21 participating photo bloggers. Below is one of Jim’s own photos from his own entry into the project. Click the photo, and I’ll take you to his post.

Get paid! No one takes advantage of me.

3 May, 2007 (08:13) | flickr, news, photo-website, trevor, zooomr | By: trevorcarpenter

Over at JMG Galleries I just read a great post discussing the dilemma of getting paid for your photography. I don’t mean quitting your day job, just getting compensated for your hard work and creativity.

The article is titled, “The Dark Side of Flickr: Photo Phishing By Corporate America“. My interest is not in slamming Flickr, I’ve got a Flickr account. I’m more interested in raising your awareness about getting screwed by just giving your photos away for free.

I understand wanting to support people, just make sure you find a balance. I mean, of course, Thomas Hawk allows most bloggers to use his Flickr and Zooomr photos. That’s great. But I can tell you for sure that if some graphic designer or publication wants to publish one of his shots, he’s getting paid.

One year of service.

22 April, 2007 (21:13) | photo-website, photoblog, trevor | By: trevorcarpenter

DPSMy pal, Darren, over at the Digital Photography School celebrated his first anniversary today. Way to go Darren!

The Digital Photography School is a wonderful community for digital photographers who want to push the envelope. Nearly each article has something to offer me, and I learn a whole lot more at their forum. Darren’s celebratory post details some of his top articles of the year. Check that one out, it’s a good introduction to what DPS covers.

For the digital photographer it is one of the top 3 websites you should be frequenting on a regular basis.
