A few of us will be hanging out and photowalking around Venice Beach (West Los Angeles) at 3pm tomorrow, October 25th, 2008. You can leave whenever you want, but we’ll probably disperse after sunset[1].
Back on the 26th of December, 2007, several of us swarmed the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. It was a mighty cold day, and standing around for the last few stragglers started to get uncomfortable. The wind was blowing a bit, and I figure that effected how many photowalkers showed up.
We quite simply, took off from the Theater and headed east on Hollywood Blvd. for a several blocks and then crossed the street for the walk back. It was fun bouncing from group to group as we slowly moved down the sidewalk. Capturing the unique people was fun, but so was the standard urban landscape that is LA.
Also, Bryan Villarin recapped this photowalk quite well. Below is the incomplete list of those who attended. I’m horrible with names, so help me fix it in the comments.
A few folks, some of them new to me, have organized a photowalk in Los Angeles on January 12th. They’re meeting at 8am at a Starbucks on 6th Street. Check out the Google Map below for the details.
Wow, what a great time I had on this one! I took along the Princess and we arrived about 10 minutes early. Leigh was already there. Ron, Jason, Brian, Jessica, Bryan, James, Norman and Patricia arrived not long after that. Later in the afternoon, some of Bryan’s friends joined us too.
We started at the end of Olvera Street, nearest the plaza, and each spread out, moving at our own pace. The Princess and I wandered down Olvera Street, focusing on one side down and one side coming back. The weather was nice and overcast, give us great diffused light.
Once back at the plaza, we regrouped with several photowalkers and headed through the plaza to catch Los Angeles’ first firehouse, just before it closed. The Princess was most excited by the brass pole that the firefighters used to slide down from the upper floor. A few more joined us and we decided to head over to Union Station.
Just inside, the large spacious area where travelers used to purchase their tickets, you’ll find a large empty room. Apparently this isn’t used anymore, except for movies and television. We spent some time there, shooting the expanse and enjoying the beautiful ceilings. You may recognize this area from many movies.
Winding throughout the long hallways we headed towards the tracks. Hoping to get their in a direct route, we were forced to exit and circumvent Union Station to the end of the tracks. This proved to be fruitful, however, because we shot some nice modern architecture along the way.
Once at the tracks, we shot for a bit and were tempted by the sight of the New Union Station’s dome. So we headed underground to follow the hallways again. Arriving underneath the dome, we looked up and saw its beauty.
It wasn’t long before we realized that many of us were quite hungry by now, so we paused to reorganize. Not all of us were ready to eat, and it was nearing the end of a nice photowalk. A few decided to head home, and the rest set our sights back on Olvera Street. It was there, where we began, that we ended a great day with some great Mexican food, especially the chips and salsa.
Speaking for myself, I had a great time! Below are a few links to take a better look at what we did…
Don’t forget about the Olvera Street Photowalk coming up! On November 25, 2007, we’re meeting at the entrance to the Placerita, in front of the cross, at 2pm.
Come join us just after Thanksgiving, on Sunday, 11/25/2007, as we photowalk beautiful old town Los Angeles. Olvera Street is traditionally considered the birthplace of Los Angeles. There is rich history contained within a short walk from this place in every direction.
We’ll meet at 2:00pm, at the end of Olvera Street, where it empties onto the large Plaza, or Placita. There’s a cross to mark the place, as seen in the photo above. The map below marks the spot with a camera, you can’t miss it. Here’s the Upcoming link.
