Marin Headlands Photowalk Recap

Just That Spot of Hope

So, it looks like the rain scared away quite a few from this amazing opportunity.

I met up with Thomas Hawk in SF, after solo-photowalking all day, and we drove together over the Golden Gate to meet up with everyone. The problem was that some poor guy had decided to try and take his own life on the bridge. So, as we drove by and saw all the rescue personnel providing care, the traffic has slowed to a crawl. After the fact, we discovered that they eventually closed the bridge and many photowalkers didn’t make it at all.

Big Plans on the Horizon

TH and I arrived almost an hour late and couldn’t find anyone. I hadn’t considered that our cell coverage would have been compromised in that location also.

Karen (persnicketydame) caught up with us in short order and the crew was complete a bit later with Prophead and Mike Dunn.

We were at the old Fort Cronkhite and Photobunkeringshot for a bit, focusing on the low light, beachhead, and the nice lagoon. Knowing that the forecasted rain was approaching, we wanted to hit the abandoned bunkers on the hill and of course the great view of the bridge and city lights. So we loaded back in the cars and headed up the hill.
At the bunkers, we found darkness and graffiti. It was kind of spooky as we wandered around inside the abandoned bunkers. Several found the graffiti and the darkness a ripe display of tempting subject. So, we spent a good deal of time as each of us discovered our own oddity.

Golden GateOnce we reached the top of the bunkers, we began to feel the rain try and open up. This was our sign to quickly reposition to the city-facing side of the hill, for our finale. We had to rush down the one-way route, tracing our way back to the great look out vista, four our few cityscape shots, just before the rain came down.Tripod Related Injury

Once we each got a few shots, off we were, to Sausalito for a couple of beers. On a side note, we had our first recorded photowalking injury too. For the details, talk to Prophead.

Hey Trevor, thanks for the great day of shooting and the great write up. I had a great time. Just wish my Mac was back alive so that I could post some of my photos from the shoot. Will do that soon!

Beautiful photos despite the darkness and weather. It’s a tragedy about the poor man who felt the need to die. On a trivial note, I would have been hesitant to go if rain threatened because of only having one cheap camera that I can’t get wet.
