Photowalking in Indianapolis
Hi everyone, this is Dave McCaskill, the newest contributor to Photowalking.org. We’ve got contributors on the west coast, and the east coast, well now we have a contributor in the midwest. Indianapolis to be exact. I’ve played around with photography off and on (mostly off) for over 20 years. I usually reserved any photography for snapshots taken during occasional vacations and trips. I always seemed to have the mindset that “there’s nothing interesting to take pictures of around here” (wherever “here” was where I was living at the time), or “I don’t have time to take pictures”.

I never got serious about it till I picked up our camera last winter and started shooting. Cabin fever in the middle of winter will do that to you. I’ve hardly put the camera down since then. When I was a kid I was quite artistic, drawing compulsively every chance I got, even throughout high school, something I doubt teachers would tolerate these days. Then I went to college and my artistic side went dormant, put aside as I dove into my career. Photography is putting me back in touch with that long hibernating artistic side.

I’m part of a group organized on Flickr called the IndyFlickr Indianapolis Meetup Club. Even though we sorta kinda organize ourselves through the Flickr group, and share our photos from our walks on that group, basically we just get together and photowalk. There’s no secret handshake, no initiation ritual, and I’m sure nobody would mind if non-Flickr-ites show up. Basically you just need to share a love of wandering around taking pictures of anything interesting that catches your eye.

You can find me on-line through my blog or on Flickr.
Cheers!
