First photo project, sociophobics need not apply
If you’re Ambulophobic or Anthropophobic or Sociophobic you may not succeed at this project. I’m looking for folks who want to take their photography to a new level. No I’m not talking about a new tool, or trick. I’m talking about breaking down a huge barrier, one that keeps many photographers from achieving great success with their photography.
I’m challenging you to get out with whatever camera you have and meet someone new. Go to a location where you will see people. It doesn’t have to be a crowded place, just a place where you’ll meet someone new.
First you just need to introduce yourself and ask if you may take their picture. Once you have permission, just start shooting. I’d suggest that you turn off any sounds and beeps that your camera makes, this makes you less intimidating. Now, while you’re shooting, I want you to get to know them. Ask questions! Where are you from? Where were you born? How did you come to be here today? Get to know this person.
Once you’re done, you must tell us about your new friend. I know most of you have some sort of photoblog, since I can see where you’re coming from. For those few of you who don’t have a blog or photoblog, contact me and I’ll get you started. I’ll either set you up right here with your own user account, or point you to Wordpress.com to start your own.
I also want you to link to this article to spread the wealth.
I’m no expert. Most of you don’t come here because I have some great photographic wisdom to offer. However, I do understand people. And I understand that you and I both need this challenge. We need to break down our boundaries and try something new.
There are wonderful tips and skills that we could use, to help us get great shots. However, those tips are better heard from many of you. So, just comment here, telling us what we need to keep in mind in order to get great shots.
Now, to be real clear…Do NOT add your link to your entry in the project in the comments. What I want you to do is email me at trevor {at} photowalking {dot} com…

This sounds really great Trevor. Looking forward to how it works out. A great reminder that we shouldn’t be so afraid to get to know people. Some of the greatest photographers in the world made their photos by intimately getting to know those who were there subjects.

FYI, no one participated. Lesson learned.

Man, this looks really interesting. I’m such an introvert, which is probably why I don’t excel at people photography. I’d love to participate, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to — I have business travel for the next couple of weeks and I don’t know how much time I’ll have for taking shots. But I’ll have my camera with me, so you never know.
